Do You Like Apples?

And we're back! We're back from Boston and simply reminiscing on such a fabulous time in a new city and with great friends. I couldn't have asked for a better time!

It was an early rise Friday morning to catch the plane, so we were all a bit cranky. But I must say, all of the events at the airport went very well and smoothly, I'm rather impressed. I'll fly AirTran again for sure, good people and great prices! When we made it to Boston we had a quick bite to eat and then it was off to see the city! Poor Lauren had to work with her horrible boss, but we tried to have a good time without her on Friday. Travis took us to his current school where he is earning a doctorate in composition. He's attending Brandeis University, it was a lot of fun to be back on a campus, it makes me miss it even more. And to put the icing on top, Travis was a fabulous tour guide!

We then started our craziness in the city of Boston...eating A LOT! We ate in so many different places and had crazy experiences at each. Durgin-Park - let's just say we're getting our money back. Our waiter sounded exactly like Harvey Milk, there was a mouse scurrying around the restaurant during our dinner (we have proof!), and our waiter would not seperate our checks at all and was extremely rude. We still made light of it, though, and spread the word throughout the city that Durgin-Park has MICE!
Where everybody knows your name! Cheers, by far, was the best time and one of my favorite experiences in Boston. The wait staff was great and the atmosphere was simply fun. We scarfed down our food and had a lot of laughs. It was the perfect scene for a great group of friends :)

What can I say about Mike's Pastry...we fought the crowds....twice....it was that good! Cannoli's, Boston Cream Pie's, Rum Baba's (don't ask), chocolate chip cookies, and cheesecakes galore, oh my! We did a lot of walking around the city, so we deserved the dessert ;o)
There were a lot of great memorials scattered around the city. Like this one, a memorial garden for those fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. The power came when the wind blew. The sound of the dog tags was rather eery. There was also a powerful Holocaust Memorial almost in the middle of the city.
You can't go to a new city without a beer tour! We went to the Samuel Adams Brewery tour and it was a great time. The actual tour lasted about 30 minutes and it was kind of a snoozer. We had been up since two am, so our eyelids were slowly closing, but once we got to the beer tasting part of the tour, we woke up pretty quickly! Amber's not really a beer drinker, and the tour guide had asked her how her first Boston Lager was, and she replied "Eh, I'm not really a beer drinker." HA! In which the tour guide quickly responded..."well THAT'S not going on the commercial!". Good times, good times. :)
We walked a ton in Boston, which in my mind, makes up for all of the eating we did! We followed the Freedom Trail which is outlined in brick throughout the city. Our friendly tour guide, Travis, did a great job giving us the history of the city and showing us various buildings throughout the tour. It was a lot of fun!
Lauren had happened to hear that the Tall Ships were in town the very weekend we were visiting! The Tall Ships are those ships from all over that race around the world, and the winner state hosts the ships to be viewed by the public. It was really neat to be on the ship and speak to some of the crew. Is it a requirement that all of the deck hand be cute!? We spoke to one from Nova Scotia who gave us a lot of information and was fairly easy on the eyes!
Another great experience in Boston, a Red Sox game at Fenway Park! We got a great price on tickets and had fun seats...although we were in the direct sunlight! Needless to say, we all got burned in some way, and poor Lauren got fried! We immediately got some aloe at the end to relieve some of the pain. But you can't go wrong being at a baseball game, no matter what the weather! Go Red Sox!
On the final day we were all tired, we had already seen all of Boston in three days, a record of sorts! But we still went to Harvard University, and it was beautiful! Again, another campus to prove that I miss college. The buildings were amazing and had a lot of history. It's also a great college town. I felt smarter just walking through!
Overall, my time in Boston was great and I would love to go back! Lauren and Travis were great hosts and we so appreciate everything they did for us. I can't wait for them to be back in NC, though, closer so we can all have houses on the water in Wilmington! ;)
Until next time, blogger friends! Have you ever been to Boston? What were your experiences?
How do you like 'dem apples!?
