Wedding Wednesday: Unity Candle or Sand?

Ah yes...the age-old question: Unity Candle or Unity Sand????

Ok ok, so it's not an age-old question, but it is the question for today's Wedding Wednesday!

There are so many different ideas these days to change things up and enjoy that modern wedding. Personally, I'm a traditional kind of gal, so the unity candle is a true tradition which shows the soon-to-be-couple that not only are two becoming one, but two families are becoming one. That was our biggest thing, family means the world to us...so we had to include them!

Here is an extremely elaborate unity candle...it also has a floral arrangement at it's base. Whatever your taste is!
This one is a touch simpler with the pearls rounding the center candle...each candle almost has their own boutonniere!
I'm not a big fan of all of the writing and size of the font. But, many enjoy the saying and tend to center the theme of their wedding around this particular quote.
I'm diggin' the sparkly crystals on these candles. Again, it's all about what YOU want and what matches your colors and overall theme.
Now, the new trend in today's modern wedding is unity sand. I always thought it was used for beach weddings, but boy was I wrong! Many folks are using it in churches or other settings.

The meaning of a unity sand is the same as the unity candle. Two are becoming one. AWE!
I'm totally diggin' the mason jars. If I were to have the unity sand...I'd countrify it up all the way!!
Now, for my wedding, my mom was kind enough to give this amazing unity candle as a gift! It actually is a matte silver with a polished silver finish. Who makes it? LENOX, of course! My mom knows how to do it up right!

The design is so simple and elegant!
And here it is post wedding ceremony. Do you see that the other two candles are still lit?! I never quite understood why people blow the side candles out...just because I'm marrying the man I love doesn't mean I'm leaving my family! Hmph! :)
Another shot...
...and here is the entire communion table setting. I love this shot with the reflection in the glass. The rose represented my father who passed away a year prior.
So, what's your answer to this question? Unity candle or unity sand!? What did you do? Where did you get your items from? I'm sure all those soon-to-be's out there would really love the advice and direction!

McLinky it up! I look forward to reading your posts on this Wedding Wednesday!

I wish I could join in this week, but we didn't do a unity candle! I can't wait to see what others say, though!

I'd never heard of Unity Sand before--interesting idea. We didn't do unity candles at my wedding but I remember a bit of a kerfuffle at my friend's. Apparently the candles weren't staying in the stand very well so some enterprising soul GLUED them into the holders. It was a charming, if slightly tense, moment as they had to pry the tapers out of the base to complete the ceremony.
